Participants will need to have undertaken previous
foundation level training in PBS. We are running a 1 day foundation course on
the 3 rd of November. We are offering this free to participants who register and
pay for the Basic Functional Assessment Course before October the 21st
Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA’s) provide the essential information to create targeted behaviour support plans (BSP’s) which lead to better outcomes for students because they address the specific reasons (functions) behind the behaviour. By understanding setting events, triggers, and consequences BSP’s incorporate strategies to improve wellbeing, modify the environment, and teach new positive skills. The net positive impact on the student’s quality of life makes the future occurrence of challenging behaviour much less likely.
Staff will find this particularly useful for students whose needs are not met by general whole school approaches to behaviour and require more targeted tier 2 type supports.
This course is designed to equip staff to perform basic functional assessments. For example on students whose require tier 2 supports.
Participants will learn to use a number of tools designed to identify functions of behaviour including
They will also learn to use tools designed to assess quality of life, wellbeing and happiness including
Participants will learn how the data gathered by these tools is used to structure and inform individualised behaviour support plans.
Participants will also be confident in disseminating plans to colleagues.
1. Participants will understand functions of behaviour, their relationship to effective BSP’s and be confident in using a range of tools to support this.
2. Participants will be equipped to carry out basic functional assessments and devise effective BSP’s for students requiring more intensive support (T2).
3. Participants will be equipped to support professionals conducting FBA’s on more complex (T3) behaviours.
