Andrew is a seasoned professional with a 34-year career dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism. Beginning his journey as a support worker, he progressed to managing services and pursued further education to enhance his expertise. He completed a three-year Bachelor's course in Social Work with the Open University and a Bachelor's in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Additionally, he holds a BILD BTEC Level 5 in Practice Leadership. Currently, he serves as a PBS Lead for a local authority in North Wales and is also a BILD Consultant Associate.
Andrew is passionate about advocating for human rights and ensuring that individuals with disabilities lead fulfilling lives. He has a particular interest in Active Support, which he has effectively used to improve the quality of life, engagement, opportunities, and skill-building for those he supports.
He is also deeply committed to training and developing staff teams and leaders. Utilizing a three-stage training model that involves describing, demonstrating, and collaborating with learners, Andrew has successfully upskilled many professionals in the field. His dedication to this area earned him the BILD Coach Award, and in 2018, he received the National CARRS Award for his contributions in North Wales.
Andrew's professional work is informed by personal experience, as he has supported a close family member with autism. This has given him a unique perspective and a deep sense of empathy in his professional practice.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys traveling and values family life. He is committed to continuous learning and seeks to ensure that everyone he supports has the opportunity to lead a rich and fulfilling life, regardless of their disabilities.
