I qualified as Learning Disability Nurse in 1995. During my training I was introduced to the principle of advocacy and knew I’d found my purpose .. listening to and supporting vulnerable people to enjoy a life of their making. This led me to focus on supporting people with a learning disability with the label of challenging behaviour as they are the most ignored , discriminated against vulnerable group of people in society. Support Services struggle to listen and understand people who tell them they are not receiving person centred support through their distressed behaviour . To help me to help them ,I gained a first class honours BSc degree in PBS in 2008 and then gained a level 7 PBS post graduate with distinction in 2020. I have a real passion for the PBS framework of support , with a keen focus on Quality of life : self determination: the Hastings model & ‘other peoples behaviour ‘ : understanding behaviour and the bio-psycho-social model.
